Belleville has many citizens who can be looked upon as “Citizens of Character.” The BASIC Initiative honors up to 12 upstanding individuals a year at an annual Citizens of Character dinner. The “unsung individual”, has helped make a positive difference in the realms where we live, work and play, and thus enhancing the quality of life in Belleville. The “Citizens” who demonstrate character do so through an ongoing process; it isn’t defined by a job, an event, a project and certainly not a means to draw attention to one’s self. It is doing the right thing at the right time.
